GOHF & JACOB'S RIDE IN 2013
2013 will be a year Jacob Landis will never forget.
It is the year he set out on an unprecedented journey to raise awareness and support for cochlear implants.
Deaf by age 10, Jacob received a cochlear implant allowing him to be fully functional in the hearing world.
So at age 24 he wanted to give back and help others receive the same gift of hearing.
His goal was to ride his bike across the country stopping at all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums, to raise awareness and funds
for others who could benefit from a cochlear implant but cannot afford one. A feat requiring 6 months of his life, and close to
11,000 miles on his bike. The GOHF provided ground support by helping to organize events and details both inside and around the stadiums
he visited including PR, social media, housing and marketing support. It is a year we will never forget either!
Jacob rode his heart out and made it to 29 stadiums, logging 10,666 miles when he was struck and severely injured by a semi-truck in Frostproof,
Florida in September of 2013. He was only 180 miles from the final stadium in Miami. Thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening, and
Jacob vowed to return to finish that last 180 miles when he recovered. And in May of 2014, he did just that! (see article on Jacob's Ride 180).
A beautiful relationship has been forged between the GOHF and Jacob's Ride families. The GOHF is thrilled to be one of the beneficiaries of
Jacob's Ride, and was happy to support him in his historic journey! We are also very grateful for the awareness he single-handedly created
for cochlear implants and for the funds he donated to us to help people get access to the surgery.
Jacob Landis is an amazing young man, and we applaud his dedication to remain committed to continuing his efforts to help others and look
forward to a long-term relationship. Learn more about Jacob's mission at www.jacobsride.com.
