Dr. John W. House
President, House Ear Institute of Los Angeles
Dr. John House is president of the House Ear Institute, which was founded in 1946 by his father, Howard P. House, M.D. His devotion and expertise as a teacher confirm his belief in the Institute's philosophy to share knowledge through professional education, and Dr. House continues to teach some of the House Ear Institute's professional courses for visiting physicians.
He is the recipient of numerous awards that includes the 1990 USC "Alumni Merit Award", "Outstanding Teacher" at USC from 1989-91, and "Teacher of the Year" by the Family Practice Department at USC in 1987. Dr. House has held the post of Clinical Professor, Department of Otolaryngology at the USC School of Medicine, and was the president for both the USC Medical Alumni Association, Inc. from 1987-88 and the Salerni Collegium, USC School of Medicine from 1989-90.
Dr. House was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNS) for the 2005-2007 term and was the society's president from 1996-97. In addition to the AAO-HNS, Dr. House served as president of the Otosclerosis Study Group from 2001-02, the Pacific Coast Oto-Opthalmological Society from 1991-92, the American Neurotology Society from 1998-99, and The Research Study Club of Los Angeles from 1995-97. In addition to serving on the Gift of Hearing Foundation's Advisory Board, Dr. House also served on the board of the former Hear Now Foundation which was merged with the Starkey Foundation in 1999.
Dr. House is a regular contributor to news stories about hearing health and is published on a variety of otology subjects. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Microsurgery and The Laryngoscope, and is on the review board of the Otolaryngology-HNS Journal. Dr. House is on the medical staffs at
St. Vincent Medical Center, LA County Hospital/USC, Huntington Memorial Hospital and Chapman Medical Center. He is included in LA Magazine's list of "Best Doctors in Los Angeles" and has been named on the peer-reviewed Best Doctors in America for several years.
John W. House received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California (USC) and his Doctorate in Medicine from the USC School of Medicine. He completed his Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Residency at Los Angeles County/ USC Medical Center in 1974 after a two-year tour of duty in the U.S. Army where he served as the Chief of ENT Service at Beach Army Hospital, Fort Walters, Texas. Dr. House entered private practice at the House Clinic in 1975.
