Tomas Scheckter - Indy Racer
Tomas Scheckter is an accomplished young racer in the Indy Race Car League. He is the son of 1979 Formula One World Champion, Jody Scheckter of Cape Town, South Africa. Tomas Scheckter recently joined Luzco Dragon Racing adding an impressive resume of two wins, eight poles, and 1,351 laps led, in six seasons of IndyCar competition.
Tomas joins the Gift of Hearing Foundation because he shares our goal of wanting to create awareness and better access for those who need cochlear implants. His life was touched by this technology when his cousin, Jaki who was deaf from birth, received bi-lateral cochlear implants and heard sound for the first time in his life.
After establishing a fund to help raise the money needed for Jaki's surgery, Tomas realized the racing venue would be an excellent way to not only raise funds, but to raise awareness of CI's as well. He has carried the GOHF logo beside him on his car, and as a member of the Board of Directors, will play an invaluable role in making the cochlear implant technology accessible to all who need it.
Tomas currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana and Cape Town, South Africa.
